What if mental health and emotional wellbeing are not as much about figuring out what disorders we have and more about embracing how we continually and miraculously re-order our world? In other words, approach your mental/emotional responses to struggles as tools for re-order instead of labels of disorder.
Over 10 years ago, I began approaching my clients mental/emotional responses to challenging circumstances as aspects of ‘wellology’ rather than points of pathology. While clinical disorders certainly exist, what many people experience when faced with life’s challenges are mental/emotional tools used for re-ordering their lives and not necessarily psychological disorders. Consider that depression, anxiety, addiction, bi-polar, ptsd and schizoid states are actually tools for re-ordering our minds when chaos erupts - that these responses to crisis and trauma are tools for mental/emotional survival rather than unwanted disorders? In fact, the inner genius and intelligence you already possess provides you with the psychological tools needed to effectively cope with traumatic situations. You are not broken! In fact, you are powerful beyond measure.
When we treat the unwanted disorder as a tool for reorder, and when we focus instead on the core belief created as a result of the originating trauma, healing and moving forward becomes a process of adopting new patterns and beliefs rather than a task of fixing someone thought to be broken.
